So my wife, daughter, and I were lucky enough to stay at Disney's Grand Floridian this past winter break from December 28- January 2. I must say, walking into the lobby of the Grand Floridian is a beautiful travel back to the Victorian era. With the beautiful high ceilings, adorned with beautiful massive hanging chandeliers. All this dresses up with a massive 5-story Christmas tree is like something out of a movie.
The staff at the Grand (and really anywhere in any of Disney's facilities) really goes above and beyond. Everyone always greets with a smile and charm, and nothing was too much to ask. When it comes to the building itself, it is starting to show its age, but what impressed me was seeing the attention to detail on aesthetics each night in the grand lobby areas. Each night detail cleaning and caulking on various parts of the walls and floors, ensuring that old age charm and magnificent appearance each and every day. Despite the carpets and rooms looking a little aged, the public spaces are kept in pristine condition at the Grand Floridian.
The pools here are fantastic, especially with kids. Our 3 year old enjoyed first the adult/24 hour pool, but fell in love as soon she found the kid and water slide pools :). The children's pool was perfectly laid out for us, just next to the man made beach. We were able to kick back and relax the Florida sun, while our daughter romped through the water and slides. The poolside or beachside service in our case was a nice addition. The gentlemen who served us, remembered us each day and was very attentive to any of our needs. We love this kind of personalized attention.
As as for the negatives with the Floridian are all subjective so I won't get detailed on them, just housekeeping and shower issues. Obviously things that are luck of the draw. As far as food, unfortunately we did not get to try any of the Floridian's table service restaurants, despite rave reviews. We spent our nights dining at various in park restaurants. The quick service food was just average. They offered a fair selection of beverages, pre-packed fruit, veggies, sushi and pastries. They also had pizzas and salads made to order. Nothing to brag about, it mainly reflected the quality of quick service stops in the parks.
Overall the Grand Floridian was an unforgettable visit, I mean come on staying at the most iconic and beautiful resort Walt Disney World has to offer. Would I stay there again? I'm not sure. If you were looking at the high end resorts Disney has to offer, I'd stay just around the monorail at the Contemporary. But overall the resort is beautiful and definitely worth a visit. Follow along for a few more Disney experiences from our recent visit!
